I sure do love doo-wop. Especially when baking. There are so many great songs and groups from this period, and all so peppy and wonderful. I could include a whole bunch more songs, but I won't subject you to that on the off chance that you don't enjoy this kind of music. In which case you might need to reassess your life choices. If you needed some cheering up today, you're welcome.

gouache
I haven't used gouache since I was required to in color studies class, but I managed to find my old set and decided to give them a try. I'm liking it a lot in terms of being able to really layer because of how opaque the colors can be. The first illustration is really fan art. I just read Stardust by Neil Gaiman again, or rather the first time I listened to Neil Gaiman read it on book tape (which I highly recommend,) it's a pretty quick read and sooo good. The other illustrations are just randomness and the last one is actually a watercolor.

pillows
I made these pillows a couple years with the intent of selling of them at the school bazaar, but alas no one purchased them. Anyhow I still think they are nice and I put a whole lot of effort into them so they are waiting patiently to find the right market, and I have given a couple as gifts. The last one is the only pillow not for potential sale as I made it specifically as a gift for my mama. I didn't have good pictures of the pillows, so I attempted to make an attractive environment in which to photograph them.

party
That first picture is one I took. I found those amazingly awesome candles at a garden shop in Memphis months ago but didn't buy them because I couldn't think of a use for super skinny tall candles. Then I realized my birthday is coming up so I went back and got them deciding to make myself a fabulous birthday cake. I also decided to throw myself a garden party because the last few years I have had rather disappointing birthdays. I'm thinking I will actually make decorations and tasty treats and require my poor friends to dress up and play croquet and maybe I will even make a special cocktail. Something involving grapefruit or lemon, perhaps.
Also I forgot to share that I know have some work for sale in Memphis at the 477 store located in the Memphis College of Art graduate building on Main st. So if you are in Memphis stop by and you can ogle my purses, necklaces and some watercolors as well as some other beautiful stuff by my fellow alumni of the school.
details
The first image is an old monoprint that I had yet to photograph and the other images are fairly new watercolors. I think I should do more of the crazy pattern ones.
If you like my work enough to want it in your home, please let me know (hevan.leggoe@gmail.com) I would be delighted to work out a sale. Unfortunately I have not worked out a website to purchase things from yet, but I will! I'm really not sure what the best option is, big cartel? etsy? Etsy honestly makes me nervous because I feel like people may rip off my work and sell their own versions since I have seen that happen multiple times. If you have advice, please share!

lady faces
Don't know why I tend to draw ladies, maybe because I am one? Also maybe because there are more clothing and hair choices which makes them more fun to draw. And of course because girls rule and boys drool.

quilt
I have been wanting to make a quilt for a long time but haven't because it is such a huge time commitment. Also I can never decide on a design. I feel like if I'm going to put in that much effort there better be a fantastic outcome that I will love forever and ever. Finally I decided to just forget all that and make a freehand quilt. No plan, no precutting, and therefore less stress, so I picked out my fabric and went for it. So far I'm liking the results, but alas my productivity has dwindled. Hopefully soon I will pick it back up, especially since there are still mounds of fabric on my bedroom floor.

envy
So even though I was technically a painting major I find myself looking at illustrator portfolios more than anything else. I seriously have over 100 illustrators' websites saved on my computer. Maybe it's because I harbor dreams of being hired as an illustrator, but there are so many crazy talented ones out there I'm not sure I stand a chance.
Justin Gabbard is so super talented. I especially love his portraits, the planes of color he uses are gorgeous and give such interest to the work. Color is generally what attracts me to someone's work, and with him it is no different.
Wishcandy (Sashiko Yuen) is a new find and favorite. I have always been a fan of cute and mildly disturbing images, and wishcandy feeds right into that love. Her girls are such badasses I just can't resist them, in fact I wish I was one. The titles of her work are smart and she still does a lot by hand which I appreciate. Also I just read this interview and we pretty much have the same exact taste in music which makes me feel a little cooler.

family portrait
I did this as a commission for the mama of the family pictured and I'm finally putting on the internet because it was unveiled to the family the other day. I was nervous about it, but their reactions were great and everyone loves it! It's a little scary doing portraits of people you are super close to because you don't want to offend anyone whether by making them too gorgeous or too realistic. Because truthfully most people don't want it to be perfectly accurate. Which is why I made them stylized. Yay for avoiding realism!
