little changes

I revamped my resume a teensy bit, but of course I'm having my usual issues figuring out how to edit things and save them properly. Will I ever learn all that stuff?

forgetful

Urgh I always forget that I should be drawing/painting/doodling/memorializing the lovely flowers I take home. But sometimes it's so fun being lazy.

boutonnieres

Boutonnieres. There's a word I cannot possibly spell correctly without the assistance of spell check. Seriously I was even looking at the post title while writing it for a second time and I still couldn't get it. Anyways, when working in the shop I often make little boutonnieres for myself out of the cast off bits. Here are a couple from last week as well as some stunning roses, just for good measure.

okra

Fried okra is SO GOOD. There is this Indian restaurant in Atlanta that only serves "street food" and I'm basically addicted. They have okra fries that are to die for and so my Dad, who I took to the restaurant and who also is crazy about it now, found a recipe that seemed similar. I adapted the recipe a bit, like I didn't have all of those spices or the chick pea flour but it was sure delicious! Not quite the same delectable crunchy fried-ness as the restaurant, but still tasty for sure. Also okra is really pretty so I took a lot of pictures.

paper

I definitely find the size and quality of the paper in my sketchbook affects how often I want to work in it. And this one is honestly is really shitty. It's basically made of the construction paper we all used as kids, so I'm trying to do collage in it so that I won't be irritated by drawing on the terrible terrible paper.

bouquets

So I've been making bridesmaid bouquets lately which is rather exciting. The first wedding I did them for had 11 bridesmaids, yes 11, so it was great practice but of course I forgot my camera so they didn't get documented. The first picture is not my favorite in terms of color, but ya know everyone has different tastes. The second bouquet has such great color and texture, so I'm pretty proud to share pictures!

spring flashback

This is an old arrangement back in the spring when tulips were still blooming, and they sure were beauties.

progress

Been working more on this painting and I'm really just not satisfied with it. I can't tell if I made it any better or worse by the addition of more faces. Thoughts?

doodles

These aren't all that impressive or anything, but I really need to post more on here so I'm hoping it will coerce me to do more in my sketchbook. Especially so that I actually have nice things to share.

king plow

While I set up this wedding and hung all those many many globes, I didn't do any of the flowers. It was a busy week so I did basically everything for a different wedding but didn't get to set up the one I worked on, such is life. I really like the event space, King Plow, I actually have been to the facility before, to see Ty Segall.

Fox Theatre

I went on a tour of the Fox with my coworkers, and boy is it gaudy. I especially liked the ceiling which is painted to look like the sky complete with twinkling bulbs to resemble stars. The attention to detail in the entire building is impressive, I would definitely like to return as a patron for a show.

necklaces

The first one I may have posted before, but one of the strands broke so I redid it. It's crazy how time consuming threading beads is, I'm pretty sure I watched at least 3 movies while doing these.

recent cooking adventures

Tofu and green beans have been and probably always will be one of my go-to meals, my mom and I have been making a version of that meal since I was in middle school. Those dumpling things in the middle are one of the most addicting things I have ever made- filled with cream cheese corn and thyme I simply could not stop eating them! And big fluffy heart-shaped biscuits are always good.

memories

I took these pictures on a walk around Shelby Farms in Memphis almost exactly three years ago with my friend, Meredith. Realizing that three years have passed is rather strange. While I enjoy the present tremendously, I seem to have the constant curse of nostalgia. At times it is nice and at times it does make me not appreciate the present (which is actually what I did most of my work on in college, fancy that, it's still a theme in my life.) My friends and I are all spreading and drifting and finding new adventures and it is so very exciting, but I will forever be missing them.
