presents

These stockings are part of what made my Christmas a bit more stressful than I would have liked, though it was also due in part to an expensively injured kitty. I just realized as I put these photos up, that I still haven't made one for myself, oops. Anyways, i hope the family members that received these will enjoy them for many years to come!

blanket?

I brought a nice big piece of oatmeal colored fabric with me to Ireland, with hopes of it someday becoming a blanket of some sort. I am going to do my best to cover it in pretty embroidery while I am here. I haven't done all that much yet, embroidery sure is slow going.

These images are the work of two wildly talented ladies who inspire me. The first is a new find, Yumiko Higuchi and the second is by illustrator extraordinaire, Jillian Tamaki. You should really check them out, I'm pretty jealous of their mad skills. Maybe I should add monsters/creatures to mine?

for other people

Sometimes being an artist with friends and family who like your work can actually be stressful. They don't always realize that being an artist means that creating art is your trade, what you are supposed to get paid for. Instead they think "I would really like this drawing/painting/sculpture/knick knack etc and Evan is an artist so she can do it for me" Yes, I can. Maybe I will give it to you as a present later on down the line, but sometimes I would prefer it if I was getting paid or doing some kind of trade. Not to say that everyone I know is like this, I definitely get paid for my work and do real commissions with people I do and don't know. But I think I should try and turn things down in the future. I love giving gifts of my art, but I also like it when people don't take it for granted, which makes me whiney, which is not good.

redo

These are pieces I believe I have put up before, but I took some new photos. I think they look better with a white background.

new embroidery

So my lovely mama and I are collaborating on a dress and I am crazy happy because the dress is for me! She laid out the pattern on the simple white cotton I chose and I am embroidering the collar and pockets before she cuts and sews so that it will be all proffesional-like. It's gonna be super summery and comfy, I can't wait until it is done!

pillows

I made these pillows a couple years with the intent of selling of them at the school bazaar, but alas no one purchased them. Anyhow I still think they are nice and I put a whole lot of effort into them so they are waiting patiently to find the right market, and I have given a couple as gifts. The last one is the only pillow not for potential sale as I made it specifically as a gift for my mama. I didn't have good pictures of the pillows, so I attempted to make an attractive environment in which to photograph them.

fix it

I got a couple drops of black paint on this little gingham shirt of mine and decided that fate was telling me to embroider it. So I did and then took an awkward photo of myself in it. Enjoy.

integration

I did a number of these small pieces at the very end of last semester, finally combining painting and embroidery. I don't know why I put it off so long, but I really thought it wasn't going to work out. I'm happy with the results, though and this semester I plan on continuing.

seminar

For my painting seminar class I am working a lot smaller and trying to incorporate not only paintings, but embroidery and possibly quilting and something involving fake flowers. Notice I said trying, I don't think I am there yet. Next time I am going to finish the painting first, before working on the embroidery so that I can base it off the composition. The embroidery takes soo long using that satin stitch, but the time passes quickly when doing it. Plus I watch billions of movies while I embroider.
